Job Description

MalaceHR is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Custodian to join our facilities team supporting a laboratory and vivarium environment. This position is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary facility through routine and specialized cleaning procedures. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, follows established cleaning protocols, and is committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness in a regulated environment.

This role works within an  animal research laboratory setting. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves and masks, will be provided. Previous laboratory cleaning experience is a plus, but not required.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning services in accordance with established procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Clean and sanitize offices, laboratories, hallways, common areas, restrooms, and other assigned spaces.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and disinfect floors, furniture, fixtures, and high-touch surfaces.
• Complete deep cleaning assignments, office restoration projects, and other special cleaning tasks as assigned.
• Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste properly.
• Maintain janitorial closets, storage areas, and cleaning equipment in a clean and organized manner.
• Use cleaning chemicals safely and appropriately for designated surfaces and environments.
• Inspect work areas for cleanliness and report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or repair needs to management.
• Follow all safety procedures and facility regulations while working in a laboratory environment.
• Assist with additional housekeeping duties as needed to support facility operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–2 years of custodial, janitorial, hospitality, or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
• Experience cleaning laboratory or healthcare environments is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
• Ability to follow written procedures and safety guidelines.
• Basic computer skills preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and lift cleaning equipment and supplies.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
• Comfortable working in a laboratory/vivarium environment while wearing required PPE.
